PageRank and Backlinks Oh My

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 | Tech Corner with

It’s all about PageRank that most web authors work towards achieving. We work hard everyday to create a niche and to build a fan base that will frequent our web site daily. The money maker to me is achieving a high Google PageRank. This is far more important than an Alexa Ranking, though Alexa is still important to gauge your sites overall rank amongst 16+ million other web sites.

What is a PageRank?

Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each web page on the Internet; this PageRank denotes a site’s importance according to Google. The scale for PageRank is logarithmic like the Richter Scale and roughly based upon quantity of inbound links (backlinks) as well as importance of the page providing the backlink as indicated in the first paragraph.

You can get a prediction of your Google PageRank by visiting IWebTool.com or click here to see what they predict your site PageRank will be on the next Google update. There’s also many other webmaster tools you can use at IWebTool.com, such as Alexa Rank, Keyword Density, and so much more.

Need Free Backlinks?

There’s a new site called Qassia that provides free backlinks. The site is still in beta and is invite only, but they have over 12,000 members already. If you would like to get started just click on this link > http://blogzilla.qassia.com/. Once you create an account you can begin to add your web site and create Intel. Visit Qassia for more details on how to get started.

I have used, and still use, IWebTool.com a pretty good bit; however, their PageRank prediction tool is not always accurate. Other than that they offer a lot of useful information.

How long have you used Qassia? How many backlinks does it give you?

    Jonathan,

I am still testing Qassia to see how many backlinks and referrals I receive. I have tested 6 adverts so far and this being the 7th one. I hope it makes a difference. The last 5 days my uniques have gone through the roof to the point that I had to research to see if they were real visits or not, and they were according to two sources.

My Alexa rank is going to break that 100K, at least it looks that way. My pagerank will or should be 4/10 soon.

My average Uniques per day have been 1784. That would be like 53,520 per month. It’s weird, but I guess I must be doing it right. :)

Cutts says not to freak about Page Rank too much.

Oy, enough PageRank questions! :) My advice is not to obsess about PageRank too much; it is one of more than 100 different factors in how we score documents.

This is old, though - and I don’t pay attention, so maybe things have swung back around?

    Acadia,

You ever hear of the bell curve? The pagerank applies the same like everything else in life. There was a blog site based on WP Themes that sold for $66,000? It had a PR7 and that my friend made it more appealing.

    The Bell Curve:

20% May say it doesn’t matter
60% May say it does some what
20% May say it matters a lot

Every statistic counts no matter what!

I never said it didn’t matter, I actually said just what you said, backed up by Cutts. It is a piece of the puzzle.

You said: “It’s all about PageRank that most web authors work towards achieving.” and all I was saying that it is not ALL about PageRank.

    Acadia,

I am saying that we as web authors want that ultimate rank. I appreciate your comments!

I wish I could get above 4, but since I don’t even know what my site is about, I can’t expect them to. =/

    Yi,

It’s all about getting inbound links (backlinks) from other web sites in your niche. You can start by asking others for link love or link exchanges same thing.

Qassia is a wonderful advertising medium. I strongly recommend Qassia to everyone with the capacity to compute. Check it out on my website, make some investment capital to allocate to your sites and enjoy my play list entertainment. I couldn’t have said it better myself as it was so eloquently worded above.

I’m wondering if anyone knows when Google updates its Page Ranking and if that is predictable or can happen at any time

I tried to use the Google PageRank Prediction a few times but I got the server error message. After the 5th try I got the “Unable to retrieve prediction at this time”. Oh well, I guess I’ll try again later.
